Clean Energy Grid to Benefit Communities

Clean Energy Grid to Benefit Communities

The PSC filing, including a five-year capital investment overview and detailed one-year plan for 2019, sets forth the projects Ameren Missouri plans to implement to modernize energy grid infrastructure in Missouri to benefit its customers and offer them more tools to manage their energy usage.

Lasers on Silicon Offer a Glimpse into the Future

Lasers on Silicon Offer a Glimpse into the Future

Ten years into the future — that’s about how far UC Santa Barbara electrical and computer engineering professor John Bowers and his research team are reaching with the recent development of their mode-locked quantum dot lasers on silicon. It’s technology that not only can massively increase the data transmission capacity of data centers, telecommunications companies and network hardware products to come, but do so with high stability, low noise and the energy efficiency of silicon photonics.

QuantumClean® & ChemTrace® Show How to Reduce Wafer Fab CoO at SEMICON Europa 2018

QuantumClean® & ChemTrace® Show How to Reduce Wafer Fab CoO at SEMICON Europa 2018

QuantumClean & ChemTrace will demonstrate how its ultra-high purity chamber tool part cleaning, proprietary coatings and microcontamination analytical testing can help reduce wafer fabrication Cost-of-Ownership (CoO). Solutions’ information is available during show hours at SEMICON Europa at the Messe München Exhibition Center in Munich, Germany from November 13 — 16, 2018 (booth A4510).

Mars Rover Chassis Updates

Mars Rover Chassis Updates

In mid-April 2018, more than 20 freshly machined, large, shiny chunks of 7050 and 7075 aluminum that would make up the primary structure of the chassis were collected in a cleanroom in Building 18 at JPL, along with about a hundred smaller secondary parts.

Neutrino Distant Cosmic Source Identified

Neutrino Distant Cosmic Source Identified

Neutrinos, Italian for “little neutral ones,” are often described as “ghost particles,” for their extremely weak interactions with ordinary matter. Indeed, billions of neutrinos stream through our fingernails every second, without ruffling so much as a molecule of matter. And yet, on Sept. 22, 2017, the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, based at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, detected a neutrino in signals picked up by its detectors buried deep in the Antarctic ice. Researchers there quickly sent out alerts to ground- and space-based telescopes in hopes of finding the neutrino’s cosmic source.

NASA Parker Solar Probe Receives New Cutting-Edge Heat Shield

Cutting-Edge Heat Shield Installed on NASA’s Parker Solar Probe The launch of Parker Solar Probe, the mission that will get closer to the Sun than any human-made object has ever gone, is quickly approaching, and on June 27, 2018, Parker Solar Probe’s heat shield —...

Machine Learning Sifts & Searches Complex Scientific Data

Machine Learning Sifts & Searches Complex Scientific Data

A team of researchers from the Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) and UC Berkeley are developing innovative machine learning tools to pull contextual information from scientific datasets and automatically generate metadata tags for each file. Scientists can then search these files via a web-based search engine for scientific data, called Science Search, that the Berkeley team is building.
