Topical Nanotechnology Diagnoses Skin Disease
A new study published in the journal Nature Biomedical Engineering documents a novel diagnostic technology that exploits topically applied nanotechnology to detect skin tissue biomarkers for diagnosis. This concept is demonstrated by noninvasively imaging connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) mRNA in abnormal scar cells, whole tissue, and animal models.
New Sensor for Brain Research
A new reagent discovered by research scientists at St George’s, University of London has shown real-time brain behaviour in more detail than ever before.The sensor, iGluu, will now be made available to other researchers who may be working on either the fundamental properties of neuronal signalling or on neurodegenerative disease such as Huntington’ and Alzheimer’s disease. The sensor will help reveal what goes wrong with glutamate signalling in these conditions.
Supersonic Waves Improves Heat Transport in Insulators
Researchers at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory made the first observations of waves of atomic rearrangements, known as phasons, propagating supersonically through a vibrating crystal lattice—a discovery that may dramatically improve heat transport in insulators and enable new strategies for heat management in future electronics devices.

New Aseptic API Line Facility
The aseptic API line facility, which was officially opened today by AMRI leaders and local officials, was announced in November 2017 and enhances capacity at the site while complementing AMRI’s other aseptic API manufacturing plants in Bon Encontre and Tonneins, France.
New EU Medical Device Regulation Course
The New EU Medical Device regulation course has been pre-approved by RAPS as eligible for up to 12 credits towards a participant’s RAC recertification upon full completion. In 2012, the Commission adopted a package of measures on innovation in health. The package consisted of a Communication and two regulation proposals to revise existing legislation on general medical devices and in vitro diagnostic medical devices.

Galileo Satellite Navigation System Satellites Arrival
Galileo Satellite Navigation System Satellites have arrived at Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, ahead of their planned launch from the jungle space base in July. But Galileo satellites will continue to be launched into the future: a further 12 Galileo ‘Batch 3’ satellites were ordered last June, supplementing the 26 built so far to provide further in-orbit spares, and replacements for the oldest Galileo satellites, first launched in 2011.
